Kim M. Gardey - Founder and Honorary Chairman
Kim has devoted his life working in investment management and personal finance, and built what is now known as Gardey Financial Advisors around the principles of honesty, integrity, and reliable financial planning. He is a Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP®) professional.
Kim is passionate about investment management and personal financial planning, and he has spent decades learning about and working in the field. He graduated with honors from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, and earned his Master’s Degree from the University of California at Berkley as a Distinguished Scholar. Kim’s working career in finance began in the Investment Department of the National Bank of Detroit. He later moved to the Second National Bank of Saginaw and rose to the rank of Senior Vice President and Senior Trust Officer, where he headed the Trust Department and the Bank Investment Department. In 1985, he took his cumulative experience and education and formed his own investment management and financial planning firm, what is now known as Gardey Financial Advisors.
Teaching Economics, Monetary Theory and Policy, and Investment Management at Saginaw Valley State University and Delta College, Kim has shared his knowledge and experience. Kim is a member and past president of the Northeastern Michigan Estate Planning Council, and he is involved in many prominent financial organizations, including The Institute of Certified Financial Planners, the CFA Institute, the Financial Planning Association, the CFA Society of Detroit, the American Economic Association, the Royal Economics Society, and the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA).

Before he joined the firm in 1993, Jon learned leadership, discipline, and responsibility from six years in the US Navy. Jon served on an aircraft carrier in the Indian Ocean and was Chief Engineer on a high-speed hydrofoil in the Caribbean.
Prior to his Naval service, Jon’s academic career began at the University of Wisconsin. When he returned from the Navy, he continued his studies and earned a MBA in both Finance and Money and Financial Markets from Columbia University in the City of New York.
Following a successful military service career and graduate studies, Jon pursued a career in finance and gained the designations of Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA®) charterholder and Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP®) professional. This knowledge and years of experience has made Jon a valuable team player as well as a leader and trusted professional.
In his 25+ year career with Gardey Financial Advisors, Jon has worn and continues to wear many hats. In addition to his duties as President and CEO, he is also a Financial Advisor, the Director of Research, and Chairman of the Investment Committee.
Jon brings his knowledge, experience and leadership skills to a number of key institutions in his field and he is also an active member of his community. He is a Past-President of the Northeastern Michigan Estate Planning Council, a member advisor of the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA), the CFA Institute, and the CFA Society of Detroit. Jon is a member of the Board of Directors at financial, educational, and private enterprises, including Covenant Healthcare System, Delta College Endowment Fund Investment Advisory Committee, Stevens Center for Family Business at Saginaw Valley State University, and Central Equity Investments Incorporated.
Jon lives in Thomas Township with his wife and two son’s. He also has two daughters. His oldest daughter is married and has a career as a Medical Laboratory Technician and his other daughter is a senior at Central Michigan University. He enjoys spending time with his children and others, serving as Treasurer of his son’s Boy Scout Troop, is an assistant coach for his youngest son’s football team, and he is a member of the stick crew for the Swan Valley High School Varsity Football Team. In his spare time he has earned a black belt in Tae Kwon Do and enjoys sailing.

Ashley M. Ciolek - Chief Compliance Officer, Vice President of Operations
Ashley M. Ciolek joined the firm in 1993. She earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Saginaw Valley State University, while working at Gardey Financial Advisors. Ashley continued her education and became certified as an Investment Adviser Certified Compliance Professional (IACCP®) and a Risk Management Specialist.
There are 911 IACCP® designees in the United States. Ashley is one of only 21 people in Michigan to earn this designation.
Ashley’s knowledge, skill, dedication, and leadership abilities make her an exceptional member of the Gardey Financial Advisor’s Team. Ashley has worked in many areas of the business, giving her a depth of knowledge and experience that is very beneficial to both clients and co-workers. As Chief Operating Officer, Ashley runs the firm’s daily operations in addition to her compliance responsibilities.
Ashley lives in Freeland with her son and their two pets. Besides spending time with her family and friends, Ashley enjoys shopping, traveling, reading, and golfing.

Cheri B. Gardey- Business Development Officer
Cheri Gardey joined the firm in September of 2016. She is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin at Madison with a Bachelor of Science in Dairy Science with a business minor.
She has extensive experience in property management and retail sales. In addition, she holds a Diamonds and Diamond Grading Certificate from the Gemological Institute of America in New York City.
Cheri is married to Jon Gardey, the firm’s President and Chief Executive Officer. She has kept busy with property management and their children’s schools, church, and scouting activities. Cheri has served as a soccer coach, a Cub Scout Cub Master, and a Sunday school teacher. In her spare time, she enjoys following the Green Bay Packers and the University of Wisconsin Badgers football teams. She also loves to read, garden, and spend time with the family up north.

Robert M. Whiting - Vice President, Financial Advisor
Bob has been a part of the team since 2006 and brings expertise on multiple levels to Gardey Financial Advisors.
He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Northwood Institute and began his finance career with Second National Bank, now Huntington Bancorp, where he was Vice President and Trust Officer. There he worked as a senior manager in several fields, including business development, personal trust administration, and retirement plan administration. With over 30 years of experience in trust administration, Bob is the team’s trust specialist. He is also a valuable member of Gardey’s Investment Strategy Committee, Financial Planning Committee and Center of Influence Committee.
Bob shares his expertise with important finance and community institutions, including the Northeastern Michigan Estate Planning Council and the Health Source of Saginaw Advisory Board. A Saginaw native, he is active in his home town as chairperson of weekly Alcoholics Anonymous meetings at Health Source Pathways Substance Abuse In-Patient program and the Saginaw Correctional Facility.
Bob is passionate about American history, particularly the Colonial era. He takes a trip every year to Colonial Williamsburg and also visits historic landmarks in Newport, Cape Cod, and Nantucket. A proud grandfather, Bob enjoys spending time with his grandkids, reading, personal investing and gardening.

Melissa A. Seamon - Financial Advisor
Melissa is a Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP®) professional and has been with Gardey Financial Advisors since 2001. Melissa graduated cum laude from Saginaw Valley State University with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 1999 and in 2006 earned her Certified Financial Planner™ license.
With her role as Financial Advisor, she serves on the firm’s Investment Strategy Committee and the Financial Planning Committee. Melissa is also a member of the Northeastern Michigan Estate Planning Council.
Melissa and her husband live in Saginaw with their dog and two cats. She continues to share her professional skills outside the office by writing and submitting grants for the food distribution committee at church. In her spare time, Melissa enjoys traveling with her husband on his motorcycle, volunteering at the local animal shelter and discovering new ice cream shops throughout Michigan.

Douglas L. Hail Jr. - Investment Strategist
Doug joined Gardey Financial Advisors in 2008. A member of the firm’s Investment Strategy Committee, Doug assists the Research Department with the formulation of company-wide investment policies.
Before coming to Gardey, Doug earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Minnesota and a Master’s of Business Administration degree from Central Michigan University. After graduation, he started at the Dow Chemical Company. During his 35-year career at Dow, he initially held managerial and technical positions in engineering and operations before joining Dow’s Corporate Finance Department. His knowledge and expertise in finance, and his leadership abilities later brought him to Gardey.
Doug and his wife Barb are active members of their church and community, and proud parents and grandparents. He is president of his church congregation and volunteers his time serving lunches to the homeless. For relaxation, he enjoys spending time outdoors and trail hiking with his family.

Mary A. Chavalia- Administrator
Mary joined Gardey Financial Advisors December 2016. She is a graduate of Davenport University, where she earned her Business Administration degree with High Honors. Her background includes serving her local City Council, volunteering as Treasurer within organizations in which her children were previously involved, and working in various office support positions.
Outside of her routine office tasks, Mary is a member of the Financial Planning Committee and enjoys taking part in outside training programs offered through the American Society of Employers.
Mary, her husband, and their two boys reside in Essexville. She takes pride in her family and enjoys spending time outside of work with them traveling Michigan, riding bikes, relaxing at the beach, and enjoying the beauty of Mother Nature.

Brianna Campos- Administrator
Brianna joined Gardey Financial Advisors in February 2018 as a valued member of the firm’s administrator team and Financial Planning Committee. She graduated with highest honors from Delta College with an Associate in Business Studies in General Management. In May of 2019, she graduated summa cum laude from Northwood University after earning her Bachelor of Business Administration in Management degree.
Brianna began her career in finance by spending five years in the banking and automobile finance industries. Prior to that, she spent eight years working in customer service and the retail industry.
Brianna lives with her husband, daughter, and dog in Saginaw. Brianna enjoys Michigan summers during which she and her family travel to new places discovering new restaurants, camping, kayaking, and spending time at the beach.

Debra M. Suffety - Administrative Assistant
Deb has been a part of the firm since 2005. Starting her career as an educator, her interest in finance led her to our firm.
She brings many skills to the company and works across all departments.
Deb earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Michigan State University and later received a Master of Arts degree from South Dakota State University. She forged a successful career in education teaching children and young adults. Deb continues to teach college courses at Saginaw Valley State University and volunteers her time tutoring children at her church.
Deb lives in Saginaw with her family. An avid sports fan, she enjoys watching and attending sporting events of all kinds. She also loves to read and travel with her friends and family.

Heather M. Reinhardt- Operations Assistant
Heather joined Gardey Financial Advisors in 2017. She graduated with honors from Delta College in 2005 with an Associate Degree in Science. Between high school and college, she spent six years studying Spanish, while earning her a place on the National Collegiate Foreign Language Honor Society. In 2007, Heather graduated with honors from Central Michigan University with a Bachelor of Applied Arts in Recreation; Community Leisure Services Administrations and a minor in Environmental Science.
Her path into the financial industry began after college when she completed an internship doing recreation management and program budgeting. From there she spent six years at an automobile finance company before joining the Gardey family. Heather is a member of the firm's Financial Planning Committee.
Heather lives in Hemlock, Michigan with her husband, daughter and dog. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with friends and family, outdoor activities like boating and snowmobiling and volunteering at the YMCA Camp Timbers.

Anne Moskal - Administrator
Anne joined Gardey Financial Advisors in February of 2018. She graduated magna cum laude from Nouvel Catholic Central High School and currently attends Saginaw Valley State University, where she is pursuing a degree in biology. Anne serves as a scanning clerk in the operations department of the firm, scanning documents into the computers and also working on other office projects as her college schedule allows.
Anne lives in Bay City with her parents, brother, and sister. In her spare time Anne enjoys spending time with her family and dog, playing volleyball, and having movie nights with friends.
